The 178B3306 is an AC drive manufactured by Danfoss for the VLT 6000 HVAC Drives series. It regulates the speed of three-phase fans and pumps so that airflow and water circulation follow changing demand in commercial and industrial climate systems. By combining motor control, operator access, and panel-mounting provisions in one enclosure, the drive simplifies cabinet layout and reduces the number of separate external components. It is suited to variable-torque loads where motor speed can be reduced during low-demand periods instead of running at full output continuously. That operating approach can help stabilize airflow and circulation during changes in occupancy, temperature, or seasonal load.
Electrical connection is rated for 380-460 VAC, allowing direct connection to common 400 V mains without an autotransformer. The housing uses a Compact IP 54 design, which protects internal power electronics from limited dust ingress and low-pressure water spray when the unit is surface-mounted in mechanical rooms. Operator interaction is provided through a front-mounted display with a Local Control Panel (LCP), which supports parameter entry, start and stop commands, and status indication without requiring a separate programming device. Conducted emissions are reduced by the integrated Class A1 filter, which helps limit line-side interference in industrial installations. This model uses a standard unit configuration for the power section, control card, and cooling path. Because the enclosure offers added protection compared with an open chassis, the drive can be placed closer to air-handling or pump equipment where protected surface mounting is preferred.
The drive is supplied with no option cards, so application-specific relay or communication add-ons are not installed. Its control PCB is built without coating, which keeps the board surface accessible for service work. Communication over serial or Ethernet networks is not included, so start, stop, and reference signals are connected directly through hardwired terminals. In systems that already use conventional thermostats, pressure switches, or building automation contacts, this arrangement allows the drive to respond through standard terminal wiring rather than through a separate network link. This setup fits standard ventilation and pumping duties where basic digital and analog control is sufficient.
