The 178B2886 is a variable-frequency drive manufactured by Danfoss for the VLT 6000 HVAC Drives series. It is engineered to regulate the speed of centrifugal fans, pumps, and compressors used in building automation and light-industrial ventilation systems. By adjusting output frequency in response to demand signals, the drive reduces energy consumption, supports precise process control, and extends service life in air-handling units, chiller loops, or exhaust stacks. It does so by converting fixed mains voltage into a pulse-width-modulated waveform with continuously variable frequency. That control method helps HVAC equipment match airflow or pressure demand instead of operating at full speed at all times. In ventilation and chilled-water systems, this can support quieter operation during partial-load conditions.
The drive accepts a mains supply of 525-600 VAC, allowing direct connection to high-voltage North American supply segments without an autotransformer. It can deliver up to 15 kW / 20 HP of mechanical power to connected motors. A Compact NEMA 1 enclosure permits wall or panel installation in clean indoor spaces while still providing finger-safe wiring access. Operators program parameters through a removable interface with an LCP, which provides start and stop keys plus a four-line text display. The unit is supplied as a standard unit, so it has no factory-installed auxiliaries and uses the base terminal plan. This arrangement keeps local operation straightforward for indoor HVAC control panels.
The RFI section is without a filter, so any electromagnetic interference mitigation must be added externally when the drive is installed near sensitive instrumentation. The application profile is Graham, which supports setpoint tables tailored to that ventilation sequence. There is no fieldbus interface, so communication is limited to hard-wired I/O rather than network-based diagnostics. The drive has no conformal coating, so it should remain in dry, noncorrosive electrical rooms. When additional suppression or communication features are required, those functions must be provided by external system components.
