The 178B2544 is a variable-frequency HVAC drive built by Danfoss for the VLT 6000 HVAC Drives series. It is used in air-handling applications, where the unit modulates blower and pump motors to match real-time thermal demand. Its speed control function replaces older mechanical throttling methods, allowing fans and pumps to run closer to actual building load. This helps reduce wasted energy during partial-load operation while giving the automation system more precise control.

The drive is housed in a compact NEMA 1 cabinet with an IP20 ingress rating, so it is intended for indoor electrical rooms with limited airborne dust. Power is accepted from a 525-600 V AC mains supply through a three-phase connection that matches common 575 V distribution in North American facilities. The output section is rated at 7.5 kW / 10 HP, which suits mid-sized supply and return fans. Safe thermal operation in control panels is maintained up to 40 °C ambient, and above this point the drive will derate. A local control panel is preinstalled for direct parameter changes, and the drive does not include a fieldbus card or an RFI filter, so integration relies on hard-wired control signals when network communication is not required. This cabinet style supports placement in standard control panels and dedicated HVAC electrical spaces.

The operating temperature range starts at 0 °C, which supports use in conditioned plant areas where freezing operation is not expected. Installation is supported up to 1000 m elevation before current derating becomes necessary. Shipping mass is 14 kg, while the unpacked service mass is 12 kg. Storage at freezing temperatures is acceptable when condensation is avoided, which is useful for indoor stockrooms and equipment spaces before installation. The difference between shipping and service mass reflects the removal of packaging before the unit is placed in a cabinet.
