The 178B2017 is an AC variable-frequency drive produced by Danfoss within the VLT 6000 HVAC Drives series. It is intended for fan, pump, and air-handling equipment where automated speed regulation cuts energy use and reduces mechanical stress on belts, couplings, and bearings. By converting the plant's three-phase mains to a modulated output, the drive supplies controlled torque to the motor and allows building-management systems to maintain stable airflow and temperature without relying on oversized dampers or throttling valves. This control approach lets HVAC equipment respond more smoothly to changing load conditions throughout the day.
This model accepts a supply range of 380-460 VAC, so it can be installed on common low-voltage distribution boards without a step-down transformer. Its motor capacity is rated at 1.1 kW / 1.5 HP, which suits small induction motors used on branch-zone exhaust fans or chilled-water pumps. The housing uses a compact IP20 enclosure, giving finger protection and permitting cabinet mounting where airflow is available for heat dissipation. An internal Class A1/B filter limits conducted emissions so the installation can meet residential and light-industrial EMC limits without external chokes. Operation is configured through the host control system because the drive is supplied without an LCP, so adjustments are handled through a supervisory controller or a connected computer. That arrangement keeps the front of the cabinet flat when a local keypad is not required.
The power board has no coating, which suits conditioned electrical rooms where airborne contaminants are limited and condensation is controlled. It is supplied as a standard unit, so cooling paths, fusing, and terminal sizing follow the normal service documentation for this model. Communication add-ons are listed as no communication options, leaving the expansion position open if system requirements change later. This simpler configuration suits cabinet-mounted installations that rely on standard control wiring rather than dedicated network accessories. It is best placed in clean indoor panels where dust, moisture, and corrosive vapors are kept to a minimum.
