The 178B2014 is an AC variable-frequency drive produced by Danfoss and delivered as part of the VLT 6000 HVAC Drives series. It is intended to regulate fan or pump motors in building automation loops where stable airflow and chilled-water circulation are required. By adjusting output frequency to match real-time load conditions, the drive helps ventilation, heating, and cooling equipment maintain setpoints while lowering energy use and mechanical stress on connected machinery. This operating approach also reduces abrupt motor starts and lets motor speed follow changing demand more closely throughout the day.

The drive accepts a three-phase input of 380-460 VAC, enabling direct connection to typical mains. At a continuous motor output of 30 kW (40 HP), the converter covers medium-sized air handlers and condenser fans. Its Compact IP20 enclosure provides finger protection and supports mounting inside ventilated panels. Electromagnetic emissions are limited by the integrated Class A1 and B filter, simplifying compliance with light-industry EMC limits. For local adjustments, the hardware is prepared for an optional keypad, but it ships without an LCP, so parameter changes must be made through a remote tool. This arrangement keeps the front of the unit simple while still allowing setup through external controls.

In typical HVAC installations, the drive can operate in PID mode to follow duct-pressure or water-temperature commands supplied by the building management system. The hardware is a standard unit, and the circuit boards have no coating, so it is best suited for clean, dry switchrooms. A blank fieldbus slot leaves all I/O on the terminal strips provided, so run commands, analog references, and status wiring stay on the built-in connections. The layout suits straightforward fan and pump control where no added communication card is required.
