The 175H8873 variable-frequency drive is produced by Danfoss and belongs to the VLT 3000 Variable Speed Drives series. In industrial automation, it adjusts the voltage and frequency sent to an induction motor. This lets conveyor lines, pumps, and fan systems match motor speed to process demand instead of running continuously at full speed. Because the drive varies electrical output to the motor, it can reduce unnecessary energy use and mechanical stress during partial-load operation. It is typically installed where controlled acceleration and steady speed regulation are important for process stability.
On the supply side, the drive presents a maximum apparent power of 12.7 kVA, which is the combined real and reactive load the feeder must deliver during full-speed operation. Wiring to the mains may use conductors up to 6 AWG, and the input branch is protected by a pre-fuse of 50 A. Under nominal conditions, the converter draws 29.6 A, which helps when selecting upstream protection and cable sizing. The electronics tolerate line variations of ±10%, so the drive can remain functional when the grid drifts from the nameplate voltage. Output frequency is adjustable from zero to 120 Hz, enabling motor speeds above the 60 Hz baseline when the application allows it. To protect semiconductors from thermal shock, the design limits power-up or power-down events to two cycles per minute.
On the motor side, the inverter can deliver up to 10 HP of mechanical output with a continuous phase current of 32.0 A. At maximum load, internal dissipation reaches 580 W, so enclosure ventilation must remove a noticeable amount of heat when the unit is mounted inside a sealed panel. Drive terminals accept motor leads as large as 6 AWG, giving flexibility for longer cable runs while helping control voltage drop. The unit is built to withstand sinusoidal vibration of 0.7 g, which supports installation on machinery frames that see moderate dynamic forces.
