Danfoss supplies the 178B2349 as a decentralized AC drive in the FCD 300 Micro Drives series. Mounted directly on a motor, the unit regulates speed and torque for conveyors, mixers, and other field-installed machinery used in automated plants. Its housing and electrical interface follow the FCD 300 platform, allowing it to fit distributed control layouts without using panel space.

The drive accepts a three-phase supply of 3 x 380 to 480 V, which matches common low-voltage industrial power systems. Its output capability is rated at 0.37 kW, providing enough electrical power to support the specified mechanical shaft delivery of 0.50 HP. A molded enclosure carries an IP66 rating, sealing internal electronics against dust and high-pressure water jets in machine-side washdown areas. Conducted emissions are reduced by the integrated EMC network; the unit uses an integrated 1 A filter, so additional RFI components are usually unnecessary. The coating on all populated boards is standard, and a dedicated display connector permits temporary keypad attachment for parameter entry, diagnostics, or local control.

The unit has Extended (24 V ext.) control support, allowing steady control voltage even when mains power is isolated. Communication cards are omitted; the unit is supplied without a fieldbus interface, so speed reference and start commands must arrive through hard-wired I/O or optional serial modules. Danfoss assigns it to a processing application, indicating default parameter sets suited to constant-torque loads such as mixers and agitators. Connection hardware is housed in a box that uses a metric thread entry system, simplifying gland selection and cable strain relief at the motor mounting point. A display can be clipped onto the front panel when adjustments or fault reading are required.
