The 178B2124 is a decentralized AC drive from Danfoss in the FCD 300 Micro Drives series. Mounted close to the motor, it converts fixed-frequency three-phase line power into an adjustable output for induction motors used in conveyor sections, mixers, and other processing equipment. By combining motor control, fieldbus communication, and protective features in a sealed housing, the drive reduces the need for a separate control cabinet. Placing the drive near the machine also shortens motor cable runs and keeps control functions close to the driven equipment. This layout supports local speed regulation and torque limiting in industrial automation systems where distributed installation is preferred.

The drive accepts a three-phase supply of 3 x 380-480 V, and the enclosure is rated IP66, so it resists total dust ingress and high-pressure washdown. Continuous mechanical output is 0.37 kW, which corresponds to 0.50 HP for small pumps, augers, and similar loads. Communication with remote PLCs is handled through Profibus DP V0/V1 at 3 Mbaud, allowing the exchange of setpoints and diagnostic data over a serial network. The network link lets higher-level control systems send speed references and read operating status without separate hardwired control lines. These features allow the drive to be mounted near the machine in wet production areas served by common industrial power systems.

The extended control board uses an external 24 V supply, allowing the logic to remain active when the line input is isolated. Electromagnetic compatibility is improved by an integral 1 A filter, which helps reduce conducted radio-frequency emissions on the supply lines. Wiring enters through a wall-mount box with metric threads, helping conduit connections preserve the enclosure seal. Local status viewing or parameter copying is possible through a display connector on the faceplate. The drive also uses a standard surface coating and is intended for processing applications where moisture and regular cleaning are common.
