Danfoss manufactures the 178B2094 as a decentralized AC drive in the FCD 300 Micro Drives series. It is intended for mounting close to the motor or directly on processing machinery. By integrating power electronics in the field, the unit reduces cabinet space and shortens motor-cable runs, which is useful for conveyor lines, mixers, and other automated handling stations that require simple speed control. Because the drive is mounted near the machine, power distribution and control connections can be arranged locally rather than routed back to a central enclosure.

The housing carries an IP66 rating, so the electronics remain sealed against high-pressure washdown and airborne contaminants often present on factory floors. Input power is accepted from a three-phase supply of 3 x 380-480 V, and the inverter section delivers up to 1.1 kW of electrical output to the connected motor. The drive is extended with a brake, so a built-in brake chopper can direct excess energy to an external resistor for controlled deceleration. Network integration is handled through Profibus DP V0/V1 3 Mbaud, allowing parameter access and setpoint updates without additional gateways. The drive has no display, so setup is handled through PC software or the network and the enclosure does not need a front-panel keypad.

Within a processing line, the Processing Application profile offers preprogrammed logic blocks that coordinate speed references, start sequences, and alarm handling. The drive can support motor loads up to 1.5 HP, matching many small pumps or augers, while an integral 1A filter suppresses conducted radio-frequency noise to meet EMC limits. A molded body with standard epoxy coating resists moisture and mild chemicals. Wiring is completed through molded gland entries because there is no terminal box. The sealed layout also helps protect internal connections during regular washdown cycles.
