The 178B1592 is a decentralized AC drive from Danfoss in the FCD 300 Micro Drives series. It combines power electronics and control functions in an IP-rated housing so it can be mounted directly on or near a motor. By regulating motor speed and torque, the unit supports conveyor lines, mixers, and other processing stations where distributed control reduces cabinet wiring. This layout places the inverter close to the driven machine section and helps reduce long motor cable runs in compact installations.

The housing is sealed to IP66, which blocks dust and protects against strong water jets, allowing washdown installation on machinery in food or chemical areas. It accepts a three-phase supply of 3 x 380-480 V, covering common industrial mains without an external transformer. The inverter section provides a continuous output of 0.75 kW, and the matched motor shaft rating is 1.0 HP. An embedded EMC stage includes an integral 1 A filter, helping keep conducted emissions within Class A limits and often reducing the need for additional line chokes.

The drive is intended for a processing application, making it suitable for material handling and fluid control duties. Parameter entry can be completed through the front-mounted display connector, which mates with the FCD handheld keypad for local setup. Communication is handled without a fieldbus, so control is provided through hardwired I/O or a standalone PID loop. Power and signal terminations are grouped in a wall-mount box with metric threads, which supports cable gland installation and strain relief when the unit is fixed directly to equipment frames. A standard anti-corrosion coating on the internal boards helps protect the electronics in demanding plant environments, and the standard hardware classes keep the arrangement straightforward.
