The 178B1580 frequency converter is manufactured by Danfoss as part of the FCD 300 Micro Drives series. It combines the power section and control electronics in a compact wall-mounted housing for decentralized motor control. In industrial processing equipment, it adjusts the speed and torque of AC motors for conveyors, mixers, and pumps installed directly on the machine. Mounting the drive near the motor helps reduce cabinet demand, shortens cable runs, and supports distributed machine layouts where several drive points are placed along one production line.

The drive accepts a 3 x 380-480 V three-phase supply, making it suitable for common industrial mains systems. Its inverter stage is rated at 0.75 kW, which corresponds to 1.0 HP. That output range suits small pumps, indexing tables, and light conveyors that require controlled acceleration and stable low-speed operation. The enclosure is rated IP66, so it resists dust ingress and strong water jets in wash-down areas. Communication is handled through Profibus DP V0/V1 at 3 Mbaud, allowing speed references, status data, and diagnostics to move over one network connection. A standard coating on the metal surfaces helps protect the housing in humid and contaminated processing environments.

An integral 1A filter helps reduce conducted radio-frequency noise, which supports use with longer motor cables without requiring an extra line filter in many installations. The unit uses an extended platform with external 24 V control supply, so the fieldbus and digital I/O can remain active during a main power interruption. This arrangement allows communication and control states to stay available even when the motor power stage is not energized. For field mounting, it is supplied in a wall-mounted box with metric threads that accepts gland fittings directly. Local access is available through a detachable display connector on the front panel when direct parameter access is required.
