The Pacific Scientific 6420-001-N-N stepper drive from the 6410 Stepper Drives series delivers precise micro stepping control in industrial automation environments. Featuring an input voltage range of 24–75 VDC and a maximum output phase current of 5 A rms (7.1 A peak microstepping), this unit is engineered to operate two independent axes simultaneously. Its primary function is to offer high-performance motion indexing via programmable I/Os and serial communication in harsh industrial settings.

This drive supports multiple communication standards, including RS-232, RS-422, and RS-485 serial protocols, and provides 8 bi-directional I/O ports for custom logic and peripheral control. It offers both fixed microstepping modes (200–51,200 steps/rev binary; 200–50,000 steps/rev decimal) and variable microstepping up to 20,000 steps/rev at 0.02–5,700 RPM. The onboard 1,792-byte non-volatile memory stores configuration parameters, while programmable I/Os facilitate master-slave operation. Cooling is achieved through natural convection or an optional heatsink, maintaining full 5 A output at 25 °C.

Designed for reliability, the 6420-001-N-N includes comprehensive fault protection against L–L/L–N short circuits, undervoltage and overvoltage events. It operates continuously in a humidity range of 10–90% non-condensing and an ambient temperature of 0–50 °C, with storage capability from –55 to +70 °C and a maximum chassis temperature of 60 °C. The Darlington sink-to-ground output stage and discrete inputs with RC filters ensure signal integrity. This robust drive minimizes maintenance through its non-volatile memory and ICR stand-by heating reduction, delivering reliable, efficient performance for demanding industrial applications.
