Designed to regulate torque, velocity, and position in brushless servo motors, the unit converts a regulated DC bus into precise three-phase outputs. In industrial automation systems, it sits between the motion controller and the motor, executing drive commands, monitoring feedback, and supplying real-time protection functions needed for tightly coordinated machinery.

The power stage operates from a regulated DC supply. The drive accepts a bus voltage as low as 130 VDC and up to 225 VDC, allowing operation from many rectifier or battery sources without retuning. At a nominal 160 VDC bus, the continuous apparent power delivered to the motor is 0.6 kVA. Phase current is limited to a continuous 3.0 A, yet the design can deliver a transient 6.0 A for two seconds to overcome inertial loads during acceleration. The PWM transistors switch at a carrier frequency of 10 kHz, which reduces motor acoustic noise and improves current-loop resolution.

The drive also includes onboard I/O, resolver processing, and serial communication for machine integration. Thirty-two discrete inputs and outputs, identified as 32 points, permit the drive to latch index pulses, enable interlocks, or flag faults directly to the PLC without extra interface modules. For resolver-to-digital conversion, it provides a resolution of 12-bit (4096 counts/rev) with an accuracy of 8 arc-min, giving adequate granularity for midrange positioning tasks. Command and diagnostic data are exchanged over the multiprotocol RS-422/RS-485 serial port, enabling multi-drop networks that span several drives. Internal heat dissipation is limited to 30 W, so convection cooling inside a sealed panel is usually adequate.
