ACO5030D by Kollmorgen

The ACO5030D is an indexer driver produced by Kollmorgen within the 5000 Indexer Drivers series. It converts motion commands from a PLC or host controller into controlled power for three-phase motors, allowing precise positioning and stable speed regulation in automated machinery. By combining signal processing and power electronics in one enclosure, the unit simplifies cabinet layouts and reduces external wiring in assembly lines, packaging stations, and material-handling systems. This arrangement also helps keep control and power functions closely integrated for coordinated axis movement.

The controller provides 2 analog outputs for proportional control tasks such as torque or velocity scaling, and it accepts 8 digital inputs so external sensors or limit switches can trigger motion sequences. Overall energy use stays low because internal conversion efficiency reaches 96% under nominal load, which helps limit heat buildup inside the enclosure. Its power stage supports carrier frequencies up to 5000 Hz, giving fine resolution when the drive interpolates small position steps. During continuous operation, the inverter can deliver a motor phase current of 30 A, and that current can be applied on supplies up to 480 VAC (3-phase) to match common industrial mains.

The unit also provides 4 digital outputs for functions such as fault acknowledgment and external relay control. When supplied from a 400 VAC line, the power section can furnish as much as 30 kVA, covering high-inertia axes that demand rapid acceleration, while transient peaks are handled by a current ceiling of 45 A. Safe operation is permitted up to 50 °C ambient temperature and 2000 m altitude without derating. Internal resistors dissipate a maximum of 1200 W, so cabinet airflow must remove braking heat during repeated deceleration cycles. This makes the drive suitable for applications that combine frequent starts, stops, and commanded position changes across a wide operating range.
