The 09.F5.09B-0009 is a sub-mounted braking resistor module manufactured by KEB for use with the F5 Combivert Axis Drives series. Compatible with housing size B, it is installed directly below the drive to keep cabinet layouts compact. During regenerative operation, the resistor converts surplus DC-link energy into heat, preventing overvoltage and allowing the axis to slow quickly without external mechanical loads. This function supports precise motion control in conveyors, pick-and-place equipment, and other automated assemblies used in production lines.

The resistor handles a continuous power dissipation of 35 W, making it suitable for steady-state braking currents. For brief braking events, it tolerates up to 700 W based on a 5% duty cycle. The duty cycle has a reference period of 120 s, which helps maintain predictable core temperatures throughout cyclic machine sequences. During emergency stops or fast indexing moves, the module can absorb a momentary load of 3.6 kW for no more than 3 s. This capacity gives the inverter a short period in which to clamp the DC bus without tripping. The module uses a sub-mounted design and relies on its B-code form factor to align its cooling surfaces with the drive's forced-air path.

The power path is wired through 2 × AWG 16 leads that terminate on the PA/++ and PB resistor posts, providing a nominal impedance of 160 ?. An internal temperature switch with a normally closed contact is connected to T1 and T2. The switch opens at 160 °C and can interrupt up to 250 VAC / 0.5 A to signal the controller or cut power. Separate AWG 20 sensor leads keep the temperature-switch signal independent of the main conductors. A TTL auxiliary output and a UVW encoder interface are available so the Combivert F5 control electronics can monitor braking duty without additional converters.
