The 175G5014 soft starter is produced by Danfoss as part of the MCD Soft Starters series. It limits inrush current and mechanical stress when three-phase induction motors are energized, enabling controlled acceleration in conveyors, pumps, and fan groups, so motors can reach operating speed with less shock to couplings, belts, and driven loads. By modulating line voltage during startup and stop sequences, the device reduces network disturbances and helps extend the service life of driven equipment installed in industrial automation cabinets.

The unit has a depth of 270 mm, a width of 132 mm, and a height of 530 mm, which helps with panel layout in switchgear assemblies. The enclosure has an IP21 rating, which protects against finger contact and vertically falling water drops. Electrical ratings allow a maximum mains voltage of 525 VAC for a standard three-wire connection, while inside-delta wiring is limited to 440 VAC. With bypass contactors engaged, the starter delivers a rated current of 50 A; when bypass is disabled, the continuous current is 47 A. It can operate in ambient temperatures from -5 °C to 60 °C without derating, and it also provides three programmable relay outputs and four digital control inputs for integration with PLC logic and field devices.

Protective performance includes a short-circuit withstand rating of 100 kA, allowing installation on feeders protected by high-capacity fuses or circuit breakers on heavily loaded lines. Line-to-earth insulation is rated at 2 kV, which improves surge isolation and supports stable operation when the incoming supply is exposed to transient events. The design uses natural airflow rather than a fan, so cooling remains simple while the drip-proof enclosure helps protect live parts in ordinary indoor control panels. Because cooling does not depend on a built-in fan, the starter avoids additional moving parts inside the enclosure.
