The XM2100.01-01-31-31-301-NN-111NNNN programmable logic controller belongs to the XM21 IndraControl Systems series produced by Bosch Rexroth Indramat. Designed as a modular automation CPU, it links motion, logic, and diagnostic tasks inside distributed machine architectures. Its compact housing lets the controller mount in a cabinet next to I/O slices, bringing deterministic control processing to conveyors, packaging lines, and material-handling stations without the larger footprint of traditional rack processors. This arrangement supports compact control cabinets where machine sections must remain coordinated while peripherals stay close to the process.
Inside the unit, an Intel E620T 600 MHz processor handles real-time tasks while 512 MB DRAM supports user programs and buffering. Nonvolatile storage of critical variables is provided by 128 kB of remanent memory. Electrically, the controller operates from a 24 V DC (SELV/PELV) supply and draws 1.0 A under control-only load, while startup surges are limited by an internal 2.5 A fuse. Peak dissipation is 36 W, so panel ventilation must accommodate that thermal load. A single USB host port allows service dongles, and the front panel offers one RJ45 Ethernet connector that negotiates 10, 100, or 1000 Mbit/s for engineering access or higher-level networking. The housing is rated IP20, so the device is intended for cabinet installation.
For fieldbus expansion, two 2 x RJ45 (Master/Slave) Sercos interfaces offer deterministic motion coupling, while the integrated S20 I/O bus sustains 100 Mbit/s transfer rates to slice modules. Up to 63 S20 modules can be chained, and the segment supplies 2 A of current to the attached terminals so external power is rarely required for digital points. Separating the motion network from the local terminal bus helps keep communication organized between drive axes and nearby machine signals. This topology allows local I/O to scale without changing the CPU or compromising update times, keeping wiring short and maintaining synchronized data exchange with drives and sensors.
