Designed for mounting next to XM21 CPUs, the module adds dual-channel CAN communication to distributed control architectures in factories and process plants. By providing an isolated interface that routes sensor and actuator data onto the controller backplane, it expands machine I/O capacity without altering the core PLC hardware. Because the module mounts beside the controller rather than replacing it, existing CPU functions remain available while CAN networking is added at the rail.

The housing has an IP20 degree of protection, so it guards against accidental contact with larger solid objects and is intended for indoor panel installation. Two CAN ports are provided, and each uses a 4-pin connector labeled XF70 and XF71; the differential pair follows the 00,02 for CAN-High and 01,03 for CAN-Low pinout, which keeps daisy-chained network wiring clear and consistent.

The input stage tolerates supply variations from 18 V to 31.2 V DC, so brief overvoltage or undervoltage events do not interrupt bus traffic. An onboard 4 A resettable fuse protects traces and downstream circuitry when field wiring faults draw excessive current. Reliable service is maintained from -25 °C to 60 °C, and the low-end limit supports cold starts in unheated machinery halls after idle periods. The unit weighs only 0.120 kg, which allows dense rail mounting without placing significant mechanical load on panel supports or neighboring modules.
