The IKS4191 encoder cable is produced by Bosch Rexroth Indramat within the IKS Encoder Cables series. It serves as a flexible link between a motor-mounted position encoder and its drive controller, carrying power and bidirectional feedback required for closed-loop motion control in automated equipment. The construction is intended for continuously moving axes, so electrical performance is maintained during dynamic tracking, and the integrated supply and control cores simplify routing through energy-chain systems. This arrangement supports stable feedback transmission during repeated machine motion and helps keep cable management organized in compact automation layouts.
The mechanical service life reaches 5 million flex cycles, meaning the conductors and insulation can withstand extensive repetitive bending before failure. A controller-side M23 17-pin (male) plug mates directly with standard drive interfaces, while the encoder end uses a corresponding M23 17-pin (female) connector for direct attachment to feedback assemblies. Communication adheres to the EnDat 2.x (GDM/GDS 2.x) standard, supplying absolute position information along with diagnostics over bidirectional serial lines. Total electromagnetic shielding surrounds the core bundle, and the compact outer diameter of 9.7 mm allows installation in tight drag-chain cavities without exceeding minimum bend radii. The shielding also helps reduce signal disturbance in machines that place motor power and feedback lines in close proximity.
The conductor matrix contains 4 x 2 x 0.14 + 4 x 0.14 mm² conductors for signal transmission, backed by separate supply cores of 4 x 1.0 mm² to deliver auxiliary power to the encoder electronics. A bright orange (RAL 2003) outer sheath aids visual identification along machine frames, and the durable PUR jacket resists oils, coolants, and mechanical abrasion. Continuous operation is allowed up to a conductor temperature of +80 °C, enabling reliable feedback transmission in elevated ambient conditions typical of sealed control enclosures. The jacket material also supports flexible routing where cables must move repeatedly without sticking or wearing quickly against adjacent surfaces.
