By combining programmable logic, encoder processing, and fieldbus connectivity on one compact card, it coordinates motion sequences, synchronizes axes, and relays status data to higher-level PLCs without requiring an external computer. Its integrated architecture also keeps motion control close to the power section, which helps reduce external wiring and keeps signal paths short inside the cabinet.

The controller exchanges real-time data with drives over the SERCOS III (100Base-TX) interface, so deterministic communication is maintained even at high update rates. Its internal electronics draw only 7.5 W, which reduces panel heat load and simplifies thermal design. Each analog output can source up to 1 mA while presenting up to 5 V, allowing direct connection to reference inputs on legacy amplifiers or transducers. Discrete control lines are provided as transistor sinks that deliver up to 500 mA per channel, suitable for driving contactors or pilot lamps without interposing relays. A dedicated RS-232 port supports service tools at rates to 115 kBaud, and the inrush current peaks at 4 A for 100 ms when the rack powers up, so simple slow-blow fusing is sufficient.

Total sourcing capability across all digital outputs is limited to 1000 mA, ensuring the backplane supply remains within safe limits during simultaneous switching events. Position feedback lines are routed through an EN2 encoder interface, and the sense pair can extend to 75 m without degrading signal integrity. The encoder supply rail can furnish up to 350 mA, supporting multi-turn or temperature-compensated sensors without an extra power module. A form-C relay is also provided for fault notification, and its contacts are rated for 30 V DC, allowing direct connection to alarm lamps or other signaling circuits. This layout supports encoder power, long feedback runs, and external alarm signaling from the same controller without requiring a separate interface module.
