8MSA3L.R0-W0 by B & R Automation

The 8MSA3L.R0-W0 is a three-phase synchronous servo motor produced by B&R Automation and assigned to the 8MS Three Phase Synchronous Motors series. The device couples directly to gearheads or mechanical transmissions to provide closed-loop motion in pick-and-place modules, feeders, and small handling robots. Its integrated resolver supplies electromechanical feedback, allowing the matching servo amplifier to regulate torque, speed, and position according to the motion profile demanded by an automated production cell.

In continuous operation, the motor delivers a rated mechanical output of 0.99 kW at 4500 rpm. This operating point results from a rated electromagnetic torque of 2.1 Nm generated when the windings draw 2.1 A. The magnetic circuit converts every ampere into motion with a torque constant of 1.04 Nm/A, so the drive can predict torque directly from phase current. Self-cooling through the housing fins maintains these ratings without auxiliary fans. The L length code and size 3 frame keep the package compact. During installation, the shaft may accept 200 N of axial force, and the B-side connector orientation places power and feedback plugs toward the drive cabinet for short cable runs.

For dynamic moves, the motor withstands a stall torque of 2.5 Nm and can accelerate loads with a peak torque of 10 Nm when the inverter supplies 12.4 A. The rotor inertia of 1.5 kg cm² enables rapid speed changes. A mass of 3.65 kg simplifies mounting on lightweight gantries, and an oil seal behind the shaft shoulder keeps internal components free of lubricant ingress. The motor is rated IP65, so its dust-tight construction allows washdown cleaning with low-pressure jets. BRX resolver electronics provide ±1 arc-minute nonlinearity and ±10 arc-minute precision, giving the servo drive absolute position data through power interruptions. The motor provides high relative rated torque while relying only on its housing for thermal management.
