The 8LSN55.EB020D900-0 three-phase synchronous motor is produced by B&R Automation within the 8LS Synchronous Motors series. With the 8LSN designation, it functions as a drive element for coordinated axes, conveyors, and packaging stations that call for closed-loop velocity and position control. In these applications, the unit converts commanded current from a servo amplifier into precise rotary motion while delivering immediate position feedback to the upper-level controller, which supports accurate speed regulation and repeatable positioning during synchronized machine cycles.
The motor reaches a rated speed of 2000 rpm, allowing stable continuous duty in machinery that does not require extreme spindle velocities. A mounting flange diameter of 142 mm gives the face size and bolt circle for direct installation. This face size supports direct attachment to common machine interfaces used on servo-driven equipment. Position feedback is delivered by an Inductive EnDat encoder that communicates through protocol version 2.1, transferring position, temperature, and diagnostic data over a single shielded line. The unit is supplied in a standard configuration. Length code 5 indicates the housing depth, and a keyed shaft end passes torque to the coupled load. An oil seal sits between the bearing and encoder chamber, and the mounting flange helps align the motor when the angled swivel connector must face a specific direction within the cabinet.
Single-turn resolution is 19/12 bits, and the encoder supports multi-turn counting for 4096 revolutions, keeping absolute position during power interruptions. A factory-installed standard holding brake secures vertical loads whenever the drive is de-energized. Power and feedback lines exit through an angled swivel connection, easing cable routing in confined spaces. Thermal energy is removed through the motor's self-cooling housing. The motor's inertia helps smooth speed fluctuations when commanded torque varies, which supports steadier rotation during load changes in indexing and conveying applications.
