Because a holding brake is not present, the load must be secured by drive torque or an external clamp when the axis is de-energized. The motor uses a smooth shaft, which works well with compression couplings and avoids the stress concentration associated with a keyway. This shaft style is well suited to drive assemblies that prioritize compact coupling geometry and low backlash.
