The 8LSA73.DB030D100-3 servo unit is supplied by B & R Automation within the 8LS Synchronous Motors series. It is a three-phase synchronous motor intended to rotate machine shafts under closed-loop control in packaging, assembly, and material-handling equipment. In an automation cell, it translates drive current into regulated mechanical motion while reporting exact shaft position back to the drive, allowing tight synchronization between multiple axes and downstream sensors.

The motor uses a 190 mm flange. The shaft end is supplied with a key, and an oil seal is not present, so external sealing may be required in contaminated areas. Internal heat is removed by self-cooling through free air circulation, eliminating the need for a blower or liquid jacket. Motion feedback relies on an Inductive EnDat sensor, and the data depth is 19/12 bits for single-turn and multi-turn interpolation. Nominal running speed is 3000 rpm. The 8LSA designation indicates a standard build without reinforced bearings, length code 3 indicates the stack height, and product revision 3 marks the current mechanical release. A 4096 revs multi-turn counter works with EnDat version 2.2 to retain absolute position after power loss. Power and feedback leads exit through an angled swivel connector, reducing cable stress as the axis pivots. The electromagnetic section uses a three-phase synchronous design, so vector-controlled servo drives can be used without modification. The housing includes a mounting flange that supports radial and axial forces directly. Absolute position retention can reduce the need for re-homing after the system is powered back on.
