B&R Automation supplies the 8LS Synchronous Motors series for general-purpose servo axes. The 8LSA56.R0022D100-1 belongs to this line and serves as a rotary actuator that links AC drive modules to mechanical loads. It provides precise motion for packaging, material handling, and assembly equipment in industrial automation. It is intended for servo applications where controlled speed, torque, and position are required throughout repeated machine cycles.
The motor reaches a rated speed of 2200 rpm, which is the maximum continuous shaft velocity under nominal torque and supports drive sizing around the required cycle time. A flange dimension of 142 mm provides the square mounting face, so machine frames can align the stator with gearboxes or couplings without custom adapters. Position feedback is provided by the integrated resolver, which supplies rotor angle information to the controller during rapid acceleration. Mechanical precision is rated at 10 arcmin, supporting accurate shaft alignment for indexing duties. Heat is removed through free-circulation self-cooling, so no external blower is required and enclosure airflow needs remain low. Because a holding brake is not present, static holding must be supplied by drive torque or an external clamp. The motor uses a standard bearing set without reinforcement, omits an oil seal to reduce friction, and routes all electrical terminations through a single connector.
System integration is simplified by the cable outlet arranged in an angled swivel orientation, so the connector can pivot and let conductors exit in the preferred direction inside tight cabinets. This arrangement helps cable routing where clearance around the motor is limited and reduces sharp bends near the connector. The pivoting outlet is useful when nearby machine panels or guards restrict straight cable exits. Model identification uses length code 6, which corresponds to the stator stack depth selected for this torque class. Installation relies on a mounting flange for rigid attachment without foot mounts, and torque is transmitted through a shaft end machined with a key for straightforward coupling to pulleys or gears.
