B&R Automation manufactures the 8LSA54.E0022D000-0 electric motor as part of the 8LS Synchronous Motors series. It is a compact drive unit that converts servo drive current into mechanical rotation for positioning axes, conveyor sections, and packaging gantries in automated cells. In normal machine operation, the motor provides controlled rotary motion for mechanisms that must start, stop, and reverse with repeatable behavior. Because it is intended for servo use, it is typically paired with a compatible drive that continuously corrects speed and position as load conditions change.

The motor uses a three-phase synchronous design, so balanced stator currents keep rotor speed locked to electrical frequency. It is rated at 2200 rpm for continuous operation before the control range enters field weakening. Feedback comes from an optical EnDat encoder that uses EnDat version 2.1, and its digital channel provides 13/0-bit position data for closed-loop motion control. The mechanical interface uses a 142 mm square IEC flange, while a smooth shaft supports clamp-style couplings and other backlash-conscious connections. The motor uses a standard bearing arrangement rather than a reinforced bearing, and it has no holding brake or oil seal.

Heat is removed through self-cooling through free circulation, which avoids the need for an external blower and keeps the motor layout simple. Power and feedback exit through an angled connection that can be positioned to reduce cable strain and uses a connector compatible with the motion-control harness. This arrangement can simplify routing in tighter machine layouts where cable bend space is limited. A mounting flange on the stator rim allows direct attachment to machine plates or gearboxes without additional adapters. The encoder can also operate in single-turn mode when multi-turn information is not required. Because the motor does not include an oil seal, it is better suited to clean, dry installations.
