The 8LSA46.EA030D000-3 from B&R Automation is a three-phase synchronous motor in the 8LS Synchronous Motors series. Designed as a torque source for positioning axes and general motion tasks, the unit converts drive current into rotary motion with high accuracy in automated lines, pick-and-place modules, and packaging stations. Its standard 8LSA mechanical layout allows direct mounting through an integrated flange and supports straightforward installation on machine axes. This motor is suited to servo applications that require repeatable acceleration, stable speed control, and accurate positioning over short cycle times.
The motor's nominal operating point is 3000 rpm, a speed that matches typical servo drive output frequencies while still providing suitable torque density for medium-inertia loads. Heat is removed by a self-cooling system that relies on free air circulation, so no external blower or liquid loop is required. Installation uses a mounting flange with a 100 mm square pattern, enabling rigid coupling to machine frames. Inside the stator housing, the encoder ring uses Inductive EnDat sensing, and its data stream follows version 2.1, providing fully digital position feedback and electronic nameplate support. This feedback method supports precise commutation and stable closed-loop control during rapid acceleration and deceleration.
Power and feedback conductors exit through an angled swivel connector, simplifying cable routing in tight cabinets and allowing the cable outlet to be rotated for strain relief. The shaft interface is a smooth shaft, which is appropriate for backlash-free clamp couplings and pulleys. Because there is no holding brake, the axis must rely on drive torque or an external locking device to maintain position during power loss. Position data is captured with 19-bit single-turn resolution, and the motor has no oil seal, so it should be installed in clean, dry environments. A clamp-style connection at the output helps maintain torsional stiffness and supports precise transfer of motion to the driven load.
