Because the motor is supplied without a holding brake, any static load must be held by drive torque or an external mechanical device when power is removed. A smooth shaft completes the mechanical interface and is intended for backlash-free clamping couplings. This shaft style also keeps the output end simple where keyed torque transmission is not required.
