B&R Automation manufactures the 8LSA44.DA030S100-3, a member of the 8LS Synchronous Motors series. This three-phase synchronous motor provides closed-loop torque and speed control for pick-and-place gantries, packaging machinery, and other servo-driven stations. In an automation cell, it serves as the actuator and delivers repeatable rotation while allowing the drive to regulate position through its integrated encoder. This arrangement supports accurate positioning and stable speed regulation during repeated motion cycles.

It reaches a rated velocity of 3000 rpm, so gear ratios can be selected with that speed limit in mind. A single-cable solution carries power and digital feedback simultaneously, which simplifies cable routing and helps reduce electromagnetic interference. Position data are produced by an Inductive EnDat sensor using the EnDat 2.2 protocol with 19-bit single-turn resolution and 0-bit multi-turn resolution, allowing fine interpolation in the drive. The stator sheds heat through self-cooling with free circulation, eliminating external blowers in most duty cycles. Mounting is handled by a 100 mm square flange that fits standard IEC patterns, while the keyed shaft provides slip-free coupling.

The motor has no reinforced bearing, which helps keep mass and inertia low for rapid acceleration. It also has no holding brake, so static loads must be retained by external devices when power is removed. A molded rear connector mates with the hybrid cable and uses a right-angle layout to keep the connection compact at the back of the housing. Because no oil seal is installed, the shaft end should be used in dry environments or with a customer-supplied seal. The motor is Revision 3. Length code 4 indicates the active stack height, and the motor supports single-turn capability only for applications that home at power-up.
