Its synchronous design gives the drive a stable magnetic relationship between rotor position and commanded current, which helps maintain smooth response across low-speed positioning and higher-speed travel moves.
The motor reaches a nominal speed of 4000 rpm, providing a balance between cycle time and mechanical life for medium-inertia loads. Rotor position is reported by a resolver; this electromechanical sensor delivers rotor angle data with an accuracy of 10 angular minutes, supporting tight velocity and position loops in the drive controller. Power and feedback leads exit through an angled swivel connector, allowing cable routing to follow moving machine elements without sharp bends. Heat is removed by self-cooling, so no external blower or liquid circuit is required. The housing length provides additional stator iron and winding volume, which helps increase continuous torque in this frame size.
A flange mounting face with standard pilot registers aligns the stator concentrically with gearboxes or bearing plates, while the shaft is machined as a keyed shaft for secure torque transmission to couplings or pulleys. The unit is supplied without a holding brake, so static load retention must be provided by the drive or by external clamps when the axis is stopped. The motor uses size 4, which sets the stator outside diameter and matches other 8JS motors in the same frame. There is no shaft oil seal, which reduces friction but requires use outside contaminated zones. This layout suits direct coupling arrangements where positive shaft engagement is preferred over a smooth shaft, especially on axes that see frequent start-stop duty.
