The 8DI440.DA0220400-1 is a synchronous servo motor produced by B&R Automation within the 8DI ACOPOS Motors series. It is intended for rotary positioning on compact pick-and-place arms, form-fill-seal mandrels, and light conveyor actuators where closed-loop speed and torque control are required. It is suited to applications that need fast starts, accurate stops, and stable low-speed control in a compact installation space. Integrated power and feedback connections allow direct coupling to an ACOPOSmulti inverter. This arrangement reduces external cabling around moving axes and helps keep machine layouts compact.

The integrated encoder uses the EnDat 2.2 protocol and provides 524,288 (19-bit) position values per revolution. This feedback gives the drive precise rotor position information for commutation and positioning tasks. A rated speed of 2200 rpm supports moderate peripheral velocities without overspeeding the rotor, and axial loading up to 2300 N can be applied on the smooth shaft for belt tension or thrust-bearing loads. A built-in holding brake secures the axis when power is removed. The motor is listed as size code 4 and length code 4. It uses configuration version 1 and comes without an additional POWERLINK pass-through, oil seal, or special shaft option.

Position repeatability is held within ±65´´ at the flange, which supports synchronized multi-axis motion where small indexing errors must be limited. The housing withstands impacts up to <=2,000 m/s² and tolerates vibration of <=200 m/s² / <=600 m/s² during machine operation and transport. Motion enable signals are handled through hardwired safety technology, avoiding reliance on network-based safety transmission. The design uses an inductive measuring principle rather than exposed optical components, which helps it remain less sensitive to dust while also reducing sealing friction during frequent starts and stops in dusty production areas.
