B & R Automation produces the 8BVI0440HCS0.000-1, a single-axis servo controller in the 8BVI Servo Controllers series. Positioned between the machine control CPU and a three-phase motor, this device regulates current, voltage, and switching frequency so the drive section follows motion commands accurately. By converting the DC link supply into a controlled three-phase output, it serves precision positioning systems, packaging lines, and material-handling stations that demand tight velocity and torque regulation. Its single-axis format suits machines that need dedicated control of one motor without combining multiple axes in the same power stage.
The controller uses an input voltage of 25 VDC ±1.6% for its 24 V service rail, and an input capacitance of 32.9 µF helps buffer the logic electronics against ripple or brownout events. Each motor terminal can deliver a continuous phase current of 44 Aeff, enabling low-inductance windings to reach nominal torque without overheating. Continuous cabinet loading is limited by a power draw of 32.5 kW, while a DC-bus storage bank rated at 990 µF smooths regenerated energy returning from decelerating axes. The pulse-width-modulated bridge can switch up to 598 Hz, allowing fine voltage resolution even when the commanded motor speed is low. One motor connection is provided, and two plug-in module slots are available for safety, encoder, or communication options. The available module slots let the unit support application-specific feedback, safety, or network functions without changing the base power section.
For applications that require sustained mechanical output, the power stage can supply 32 kW continuously to the connected motor at a nominal DC link level of 750 VDC. Short-term overloads such as rapid indexing or load surges are supported by a peak phase current capacity of 88 Aeff, which is electronically time-limited to protect the IGBT module. The device's architecture concentrates all power electronics on a cold-plate carrier, so thermal energy is extracted efficiently and drive cabinets remain compact. This layout moves heat away from the main electronic assembly and supports compact installation in dense motion-control cabinets.
