KL3062 by Beckhoff

The KL3062 is an I/O terminal produced by Beckhoff for the KL Analog Input Modules series. It mounts on a DIN rail alongside other Bus Terminal devices and acquires low-level process signals for a higher-level controller. Designed for machine and plant automation, the terminal converts field voltages into digital words that can be evaluated by the Beckhoff runtime system, providing precise monitoring of analog variables without additional signal-conditioning hardware. Within distributed control architectures, it forms the voltage-measurement front end of an EtherCAT or Lightbus station.

Each channel accepts single-ended voltage signals from 0 to 10 V, and the converter offers a resolution of 12 bits, allowing fine discrimination of process changes. The module provides two input channels, so two separate sensors can be monitored simultaneously without extra hardware. Sampling uses the voltage measurement principle, and incoming data is packed into two 16-bit process words that the controller reads cyclically. This arrangement places the raw value, scaling bits, and diagnostic flags in fixed locations, simplifying PLC programming and reducing scan-time overhead during analog acquisition.

Control acknowledgment is transmitted in two 8-bit status bytes, which the PLC uses to detect wiring errors or overrange events. Galvanic separation between the input circuitry and the internal backplane is rated at 500 V, preventing noise on the sensor side from propagating into the node electronics. Operating power is supplied through the K-bus, so no external 24 V feed is required for the measurement section. The housing is rated to IP20 and is intended for installation in a protected control cabinet. Its compact terminal format allows it to occupy the same modular station as digital I/O, communication, and other analog terminals.
