KL3044 by Beckhoff

The KL3044 analog input terminal is produced by Beckhoff for the KL Analog Input Modules series. It is designed for industrial automation tasks that require reliable current acquisition from field transmitters. By translating loop signals into digital data that a controller can process, the unit eliminates separate signal conditioners while keeping wiring decentralized. Four single-ended measurement paths are provided, and the terminal installs directly beside other I/O terminals on a bus coupler, allowing systems to expand in 12 mm increments without relocating equipment.

Each channel samples the incoming current every 2 ms, allowing fast trend recognition in closed-loop control. The successive-approximation conversion stage provides 12-bit resolution, delivering fine measurement granularity across the supported current span. The module accepts the standard instrumentation range of 4-20 mA, and values outside this range are detected as underrange or overrange conditions. Signal lines encounter an input impedance of 80 ?, limiting voltage drop and maintaining transmitter compliance voltage. The analog circuits share a common return because the channels use single-ended wiring. The compact design also allocates space for 4 status bits in the process image, allowing the controller to monitor channel conditions alongside the measured values.

The housing clips onto a 35 mm DIN rail, providing secure installation in a protected control cabinet. Operating power is supplied automatically via the K-bus, so the terminal does not require a separate supply jumper. The IP20 enclosure rating makes the terminal suitable for clean, protected panels where it is shielded from water and small foreign objects. The electronic data area presented to the controller occupies 4 x 16 bits + 4 x 8 bits, supporting the transfer of analog measurements and associated control or status information through the bus system.
