The KL2602 relay terminal is produced by Beckhoff and belongs to the KL Bus Terminals series. This compact I/O slice mounts on a DIN rail beside compatible terminals and provides two digital output channels for switching external loads. Within an automation cell, the terminal converts PLC commands into electromechanical contact closures, allowing pumps, solenoids, or indicator circuits to be energized. The relay contacts also provide electrical separation between the low-level control electronics and field wiring. Its narrow terminal format helps conserve control cabinet space while retaining individual connection points for both channels.
The terminal receives channel commands from the bus through 2 output bits. Field wiring uses a 2-wire connection scheme that places the common and switched conductors on adjacent terminals, helping keep connections organized. The relay uses normally open contacts, so each connected circuit closes when its corresponding output is activated. Electrical isolation between the logic section and the switched power path is rated at 500 V, helping protect the upstream bus coupler from transient faults. Each channel can conduct up to 5 A when used within the applicable load conditions. The contacts can switch supplies up to 230 V AC or 30 V DC without exceeding the terminal's voltage limits. Appropriate external circuit protection should be selected according to the connected load and conductor size.
The relay mechanism has a mechanical service life of 20,000,000 cycles, supporting applications that require repeated contact operation. The two channels provide 2 isolated outputs that can be controlled simultaneously or independently through the application logic. A relay contact design provides galvanic separation and permits the terminal to control compatible AC or DC loads. Because the outputs use physical contacts, switching frequency and electrical service life depend on the load type, current, voltage, and resulting contact wear. The housing carries an IP20 classification, which provides protection against accidental finger contact with hazardous internal parts. This protection level is intended for installation inside a suitable control cabinet because the terminal is not sealed against water or fine dust.
