KL2032 by Beckhoff

The KL2032 terminal is produced by Beckhoff and is part of the KL Digital Output Modules series. This 24 V automation component occupies one slot on a Bus Terminal block and provides two independent sourcing outputs for field devices. Within a control system, the unit maps its channels into the controller image so that discrete actuators such as indicators, contactors, or small solenoids can be switched directly from the PLC program. Its compact format allows the output channels to be installed alongside other Bus Terminals on the same assembly.

It follows a 2-wire connection concept, meaning the supply and switching lines share the same pair of terminals for each channel. The supply rail is rated at 24 V DC, so logic power and load power originate from the same standard control-cabinet supply. Each channel can source up to 0.5 A per channel, allowing coils or lamps to be driven without interposing relays. Integrated current limiting shuts down an output if the permitted current is exceeded. The outputs support ohmic, inductive, and lamp loads, including resistive heaters, inductive solenoids, and filament indicators. The terminal provides 2 outputs, balancing field density with heat dissipation in the terminal housing.

In the process data map, the terminal contributes an image containing 2 output bits and 2 input bits. The input bits report diagnostic information, such as an overload or wire break, to the controller. The housing has an IP20 protection rating, so the terminal must be installed inside an enclosure that prevents exposure to water and small foreign objects. Internal circuitry includes reverse-voltage protection, which prevents damage if the 24 V supply is connected with reversed polarity. A short-circuit-proof output stage reduces current during a fault instead of relying on a blown fuse to interrupt the affected channel. These protective functions allow the terminal to respond safely to common wiring and load faults in standard machine-control cabinets.
