KL1819 by Beckhoff

The KL1819 is a digital input terminal manufactured by Beckhoff for the KL Digital Input Terminals series. It acquires binary field signals across multiple channels and transfers their states to the automation controller through the system K-bus. By combining multiple sensor lines into one compact terminal, the unit reduces cabinet wiring without requiring additional configuration before operation.

The terminal operates from a nominal field supply of 24 VDC. Each channel draws an input current of 3 mA, allowing direct connection of compatible field devices without overloading their outputs. The internal input filter is set to 0.2 ms, which suppresses brief signal disturbances while capturing fast switching events. Signal lines use the single-ended 1-wire connection method, minimizing terminal points and simplifying installation. A total of 16 channels gives the controller a process image width of 16 bits. No software adjustment is necessary because the module is supplied with fixed parameters. Its variable installation position allows it to be mounted in any orientation permitted by the surrounding enclosure and terminal arrangement.

Backplane loading remains low because the K-bus requires only 20 mA, allowing many terminals to share a power segment. The housing measures 15 mm × 100 mm × 70 mm, supporting dense installation inside control enclosures. It has an IP20 protection rating, making it suitable for clean electrical cabinets while permitting convenient access to the conductor connections. Its electrical characteristics comply with the EN 61131-2 Type 1/3 input standard, providing compatibility with the corresponding PLC signal levels. Solid, stranded, and ferrule-terminated conductors can be connected to the terminal. The process image is updated automatically during each bus cycle without additional user intervention.
