IP3202-B520-0000 by Beckhoff

The IP3202-B520-0000 is an analog input module manufactured by Beckhoff for the IP Compact Box Units series. Intended for decentralized temperature acquisition, it performs resistance measurements on four channels and places signal conditioning directly on the machine. Its sealed housing and field-ready connectors allow mounting outside the control cabinet, so RTD leads can terminate close to the process while the fieldbus returns digitized values to the PLC. By delivering conditioned temperature data over EtherCAT, the unit reduces wiring runs and simplifies thermal monitoring in automated packaging, food processing, and assembly equipment.

It provides 4 analog inputs that accept RTDs in resistance mode. Each channel is sampled with a cycle time of 260 ms, and the converter delivers a resolution of 0.1 °C per digit to support precise thermal regulation. The channel electronics are separated from the control side by 500 V isolation, but individual channels are not isolated from one another. Broken conductors are indicated locally through error LEDs. Four selectable input filters suppress high-frequency noise, and the process image supplies four 16-bit words to the PLC. Optional local data lines add four 8-bit signals and four 16-bit signals for ancillary status information. Isolation between the control electronics and fieldbus helps prevent network disturbances from reaching the sensor supply.

Sensor leads fasten to an M12 screw-in header, and the module supports 2-wire or 4-wire connections for compatible RTDs. Supported sensor types include PT100, PT200, PT500, PT1000, Ni100, Ni120, and Ni1000. The molded enclosure meets IP65, IP66, and IP67 protection levels, allowing it to withstand dust, water jets, and temporary immersion. System power enters through one 4-pin M8 connector, while channel states reach the controller over the network cable that carries the converted measurements. The field-mounted design places the measurement electronics near the connected sensors and reduces the length of analog signal wiring. Local indication also allows connection faults to be recognized at the module without relying solely on controller diagnostics.
