The IP2321-B510-0000 is an IP-rated compact box unit produced by Beckhoff within the IP Compact Box Units series. Designed for decentralized installation on machinery, the device combines digital input and output channels with a CANopen interface so that controllers can collect sensor states and drive actuators directly over the fieldbus. Its sealed M8 screw connections and fixed process image make it a compact I/O node that extends 24 V control wiring into harsh industrial areas without requiring additional enclosures.

The input side provides 4 digital inputs, each sensed against the common 24 V level. Each input draws 6 mA of input current, allowing proximity switches or PNP sensors to be connected without overloading low-power devices. Signal debouncing is handled by a 3.0 ms input filter, so chatter from mechanical contacts is suppressed before data is placed in the process image. Command functions are executed through 4 digital outputs that can switch resistive, inductive, or lamp loads. These outputs are refreshed across the CANopen fieldbus, and status bits are returned simultaneously to the controller through the 4-bit input image.

Power is supplied through a 4-pin M8 feed with a rated load voltage of 24 VDC. Each output channel can deliver up to 2.0 A per channel, while the aggregate limit across the four outputs is a total output current of 4 A. An electronic fuse limits the current during fault conditions. The module supplies connected sensors with up to 0.5 A per port, eliminating the need for separate sensor supply lines. A 4-pin M8 socket supports downstream expansion with additional I/O boxes, allowing the CANopen trunk to continue without extensive rewiring. This arrangement reduces the number of long individual cable runs between field devices and the central control cabinet.
