The IP2302-B528-0000 is an eight-channel digital I/O module produced by Beckhoff for the IP Compact Box Units series. Intended for direct mounting on machinery, it combines four sinking inputs with four high-side outputs, allowing sensors and actuators to be wired locally while the control system exchanges bit data over a single fieldbus connection. By consolidating distributed wiring into a compact process image, the unit simplifies signal collection and output actuation in industrial automation cells.

The communication layer uses DeviceNet with an integrated tee connector, so the module can be inserted along the trunk line without additional connection hardware. Internal isolation separates the fieldbus circuits from the logic side, helping protect the controller from ground potential differences. All channels share a 24 VDC supply, and each input draws only 6 mA, reducing the load placed on connected sensors. An input filter with a response time of 3.0 ms suppresses contact bounce before signal states are transmitted to the controller. Input detection complies with EN 61131-2 Type 2, providing compatibility with suitable two-wire proximity switches and other industrial sensing devices.

Each output can source up to 0.5 A per channel, while a separate load-voltage current limit of 20 mA per channel supports the diagnostic LEDs. Electronic protection interrupts the affected circuit when current reaches 1.5 A, reducing the risk of damage from output short circuits. The downstream connection uses one 4-pin M8 socket, and power enters through a matching 4-pin M8 feed connector. Signal wiring terminates at the M12 bolted connections used for the module series, providing secure attachment in machine-mounted applications. Internally, the module allocates 4 input bits and 4 output bits in the process image, allowing the PLC to exchange channel states without additional data mapping.
