As a compact I/O device, it offers eight protected output channels and internal power distribution, allowing shorter cable runs and simpler wiring in industrial automation cells. Its field-mounted design places switching functions close to connected actuators, reducing the amount of wiring routed back to a central enclosure.

Communication is handled over PROFIBUS, and the bus lines plug into an integrated tee connector, so no additional junction hardware is required on the trunk. The module operates from a 24 VDC supply that enters through two 4-pin M8 sockets, which can also forward power to neighboring devices. Three internal load circuits distribute power among the outputs, and each channel can deliver 2.0 A per channel. The internal electronics draw only 50 mA per channel to energize the switching transistors. Reverse-polarity protection disconnects the circuit if the supply leads are swapped, helping prevent damage caused by incorrect wiring. No downstream fieldbus connection is present, which helps avoid signal reflections when the unit is installed at the end of a segment. The process image reserves one controller bit for each output, allowing deterministic updates from the control program.

The output connections use M12 screw-in sockets that provide secure attachment in industrial environments. The channels share a cumulative current capacity of 12 A, providing sufficient power for compact pneumatic manifolds, contactors, or indicator banks. Electronic shutdown activates at a short-circuit current of up to 4.0 A, protecting the connected wiring without requiring separate output fuses. Each channel also provides a 0.5 A sensor supply, allowing nearby proximity switches to use the same 24 V rail. Contiguous mapping in the PLC process image permits individual channel control or grouped output commands. Independent power segments distribute current across the module and help minimize voltage drop when multiple channels are energized simultaneously.
