The IP2021-B520-0000 is an eight-channel digital output module manufactured by Beckhoff for the IP Compact Box Units series. Housed in a fully encapsulated block with industry-standard M8 connectors, the unit extends EtherCAT I/O to field-level actuators where cabinet-free installation is preferred. By switching external loads directly on the machine, it reduces wiring to the control panel and supports decentralized architectures commonly used in modern automation cells. Its compact housing allows the module to be mounted close to valves, relays, lamps, and other connected devices.

The module operates with a nominal bus power supply of 24 VDC. It provides 8 individually controlled PNP outputs, allowing simultaneous actuation of solenoid valves, relays, or indicator lamps. Each channel can deliver up to 2.0 A per channel, so inductive loads with higher inrush currents can be handled without dedicated relays. Under normal conditions, each channel draws only 30 mA for the internal electronics, helping limit overall current consumption in large installations. The housing has an ingress protection rating of IP65/IP66/IP67, providing resistance to dust, water jets, and temporary immersion. This sealed design permits direct mounting on tooling fixtures, conveyors, or robotic end effectors without a separate control cabinet.

Total load sharing across the block is limited to 4 A, which supports accurate selection of upstream fuses and cable gauges. Reliable operation is maintained at ambient temperatures up to 55 °C, allowing the box to be placed near motors or process heaters without additional cooling. The assembly tolerates storage temperatures as low as -25 °C, protecting its electronics when stored in an unconditioned location. If a downstream circuit is shorted, an internal electronic fuse trips at 4.0 A and resets after the fault clears, helping prevent permanent damage. Screw-in M8 output connectors provide secure field connections, while a separate 0.5 A sensor supply is available for each port. Reverse-polarity protection guards against incorrect power connections, and a dedicated M8 power feed simplifies installation on production equipment.
