IL2302-C900-0000 by Beckhoff

The IL2302-C900-0000 is an I/O coupler produced by Beckhoff for the IL Coupler Box Units series. It allows decentralized sensors and actuators to be wired in the field and connected to the primary controller through an Ethernet backbone. By combining four inputs and four outputs in a sealed enclosure, the unit streamlines signal collection and distribution in industrial automation cells that rely on real-time data exchange.

Communication with the higher-level network occurs through an RJ45 port that carries standard Ethernet frames. Internally, a 16-bit processor handles preprocessing and cyclic data exchange. The module provides 4 digital inputs for sensors and 4 digital outputs for actuators; this fixed ratio is suitable for small tooling stations or pick-and-place nests. Process data move over Ethernet TCP/IP, so the unit can connect to existing switches and routers without proprietary protocol converters. A polyurethane casting compound surrounds the electronics to resist vibration, while the PA6 polyamide housing adds mechanical strength. Field devices attach through M12 bolted connectors, and 2 × M3 mounting holes secure the box to machine frames. A 512-byte nonvolatile memory section stores configuration data, allowing the device to resume operation after a power loss without an external backup.

The enclosure has a depth of 26.5 mm, a width of 30 mm, and a height of 175 mm, allowing installation in tight cable channels. The enclosure meets the IP65/66/67 rating, protecting the bus and I/O circuitry against dust, water jets, and temporary immersion. Up to 120 extension modules can be added to the downstream EtherCAT segment, so a single coupler can serve large conveyor lines. Application code conforms to the IEC 61131-3 standard, enabling the reuse of PLC function blocks across different projects and compatible control platforms.
