The IL2302-B520-0000 is a coupler box unit produced by Beckhoff within the IL Coupler Box Units series. It serves as an interface that lets distributed sensors and actuators exchange process data with a higher-level controller through a single fieldbus trunk, reducing cabinet wiring and allowing on-machine installation in industrial automation environments. A galvanic barrier provides control-to-fieldbus isolation, preventing ground loops between upstream PLC electronics and connected devices.

The module operates from a control supply of 24 VDC, and the internal electronics draw a maximum of 0.5 A, so power budgeting in the field must accommodate that load. For cyclic communication, it handles 512 B input / 512 B output of process data, providing ample space for status bits and analog values during each scan. Incoming power is routed through a top-mounted M8 4-pin plug, while daisy-chain distribution continues through a matching M8 4-pin socket on the opposite face, simplifying the series wiring of multiple boxes along the machine frame.

The electronic core is encapsulated in polyurethane for vibration damping and moisture protection, and the outer housing is molded from PA6, a glass-fiber-reinforced polyamide that resists oils and cutting fluids. The enclosure has an IP65/66/67 rating, so the box tolerates dust, low-pressure washdown, and temporary immersion. Two threaded mounting bosses accept 2 x M3 fasteners, allowing the unit to be secured to panels or extruded profiles in any permitted orientation. Other exposed metal parts are made from nickel-plated brass to limit corrosion in wet areas and support installation near equipment exposed to moisture or process fluids.
