The IL2301-B903-0000 is an I/O coupler box manufactured by Beckhoff within the IL Coupler Box Units series. Intended for decentralized control architectures, it collects local sensor and actuator signals and transfers them to the controller through PROFINET. The molded enclosure complies with the IP65, IP66, and IP67 protection classes, allowing direct installation on equipment without additional guarding. By relocating I/O connections to the field, the unit reduces control-cabinet wiring and supports modular machine sections that can be configured or serviced independently.

Signal capacity is split symmetrically into 4 digital inputs and 4 digital outputs, allowing the box to monitor discrete sensors and actuate solenoids from the same housing. Process data is forwarded to the host PLC through a PROFINET interface presented on an M12 D-coded female socket, which provides a vibration-resistant field connection. Internally, the device connects to Beckhoff's IP-Link bus, which operates at 2 Mbit/s. The optical connection is resistant to electromagnetic interference while transporting process data between nodes. The coupler's I/O ports use M8 screw-type connectors, so standard sensor cables can be connected without special tools.

The PA6 enclosure withstands impacts and exposure to oils commonly found in industrial environments. Critical electronics are overmolded with a polyurethane casting compound, sealing the components against vibration and moisture. All threaded inserts and shields are made of nickel-plated brass for corrosion resistance, while the signal pins are made of gold-plated CuZn to maintain low contact resistance over repeated mating cycles. Two M3 mounting holes simplify attachment to machine frames, and the unit may be installed in any orientation. The IP-Link trunk uses optical fiber and supports daisy-chaining of up to 120 downstream modules without reducing signal integrity.
