The IL2301-B900-0000 is an IP-rated coupler box manufactured by Beckhoff and assigned to the IL Coupler Box Units series. Designed for decentralized installation, the unit serves as a compact interface that gathers digital signals from sensors and relays command data to actuators directly on the machine frame. By bringing I/O points closer to the process and connecting them to the higher-level controller over standard Ethernet, the device simplifies wiring and improves response times in automated production cells.

Network traffic is routed through an RJ45 bus connector, so standard Cat-5e or Cat-6 patch cables can be used without proprietary plugs. The device communicates using the Ethernet TCP/IP fieldbus protocol and also supports Fast ModbusTCP messaging for higher polling rates when required by the controller. The unit has 4 digital inputs for reading proximity switches or limit sensors, while its 4 digital outputs energize solenoids or indicator lamps through high-side drivers. The sealing and gasket design meets the IP65/66/67 protection class, allowing direct mounting in washdown or splash zones without an additional enclosure. This protection also helps prevent dust from reaching the internal electronics when the unit is mounted near material-handling equipment.

The casting compound is polyurethane, which protects the internal circuitry from vibration and moisture ingress. For secure fastening, the base plate has 2 x M3 mounting holes that allow the box to be attached to sheet-metal brackets or aluminum extrusions. Signal lines from sensors and actuators terminate on an M8 bolted connector system that maintains electrical continuity under shock loading. The unrestricted installation position allows the connections to be oriented as needed for the available machine space and cable routing. This mounting flexibility helps keep sensor and actuator cables short without requiring a specific enclosure orientation.
