IL2301-B528-0000 by Beckhoff

The IL2301-B528-0000 is a compact coupler box manufactured by Beckhoff within the IL Coupler Box Units series. Mounted close to sensors and actuators, it collects discrete I/O signals and transmits them over a fieldbus to the central controller, reducing parallel wiring in automated machines and material-handling cells. Its molded housing and sealed connectors support distributed control installations on the plant floor. The unit can be installed in any orientation, allowing it to fit machine layouts with limited mounting space or unconventional cable routes.

Communication with the controller is handled through a fieldbus interface based on DeviceNet, and an integrated tee connector eliminates the need for external junction hardware. The coupler provides 4 digital inputs for sensor lines and 4 digital outputs for actuator loads, with each channel presented through an M8 bolted interface that resists loosening under vibration. The enclosure measures 210 × 30 × 26.5 mm, allowing placement in narrow cable channels or along machine extrusions. Downstream expansion uses Beckhoff IP-Link, and data on this fiber-optic extension bus reaches 2 Mbit/s for rapid update cycles when several boxes are connected in a chain. The optical connection also maintains galvanic isolation between stations, helping prevent ground loops from disrupting signal transmission across large installations.

Successive IP-Link nodes can be separated by up to 15 m, providing layout flexibility for conveyors, robots, and test benches. The enclosure has an ingress protection rating of IP65/66/67, protecting the electronics against dust, water jets, and temporary immersion when the connectors are properly secured. The outer shell is molded from PA6, while the internal electronics are encapsulated in polyurethane to resist shock, vibration, and moisture. Two M3 mounting holes permit direct fastening to a machine frame or supporting surface without a separate mounting plate. Gold-plated CuZn contacts in the M8 sockets maintain low connection resistance and provide corrosion protection for field cabling during long-term operation.
