IE4112 by Beckhoff

The IE4112 is a decentralized I/O extension unit manufactured by Beckhoff for the IE Extension Box Units series. Designed as a four-channel analog output block, it connects field devices to an EtherCAT network and supports industrial automation systems on conveyors, assembly stations, and material-handling equipment. The compact housing allows installation close to connected devices, reducing cabinet space requirements and shortening cable runs between the controller and machine components.

The block provides a conversion time of less than 4 ms, allowing updated analog output values to reach the terminals promptly after process data is received. Each channel offers a resolution of 15 bits, providing fine adjustment of the output signal across its operating range. A process data width of 4 × 16 bits is transferred cyclically, allocating one 16-bit value to each port. The module includes four galvanically isolated output drivers. The output section is isolated from the control electronics, but the individual channels are not isolated from one another and therefore share a common reference. The connected loads must have an impedance greater than 500 ? to keep the output current within the permitted range.

A downstream bus segment leaves the housing through one 4-pin M8 socket, allowing additional extension boxes to be connected in a daisy chain without separate couplers. The analog output signals are routed through rugged M12 screw-in sockets, which provide secure connections in industrial installations. The output electronics are energized by the control voltage, separating their operation from the actuator power circuit. The actuator supply is provided by the load voltage (UP), allowing connected equipment to use the same 24 V rail as other machine devices. Primary power enters through a separate 4-pin M8 connector that carries the 24 V supply and ground connection. A variable mounting position allows the enclosure to be installed horizontally on a machine frame or vertically inside a protective trough. This flexibility helps align the connectors with the selected cable route while preserving access to the ports and mounting points.
