IE2302-0000 by Beckhoff

The IE2302-0000 is an IP-rated extension I/O box produced by Beckhoff for the IE Extension Box Units series. Mounted close to sensors and actuators, it transfers on-machine digital signals to the EtherCAT backbone through shielded M12 connectors. By concentrating discrete points in a compact housing, the unit simplifies field wiring and supports distributed control systems in automated production lines.

Power for the electronics and connected loads is supplied at 24 VDC, which is the module's rated load voltage. It provides four inputs and four outputs, allowing each actuator to be paired with a dedicated feedback input. Each input draws only 6 mA, limiting the current required from the control supply. A built-in 3.0 ms input filter debounces mechanical contacts before the signal state reaches the controller. Each output supplies up to 0.5 A per channel, while internal current consumption is limited to 20 mA per channel. The device maps its channels into a 4-bit input and 4-bit output process image. Its isolation scheme separates the control circuitry from the fieldbus while retaining a common reference between the channels and control plane for straightforward grounding.

Field connections use M12 screw-in sockets located on the top face of the housing. The upstream power supply connects through a 4-pin M8 plug, while the EtherCAT line continues through one 4-pin M8 socket. An electronic fuse limits fault current to 1.5 A, helping protect connected cables and loads from excessive current. Isolation between the control circuitry and fieldbus helps maintain communication integrity during output switching. Channel-to-channel isolation and isolation between the channels and control circuitry are omitted, allowing the housing to remain compact. The variable installation position permits mounting on machinery, cable trays, or brackets without affecting normal operation.
