The IE2002-0000 is an industrial I/O extension box produced by Beckhoff for the IE Extension Box Units series. It functions as an eight-channel digital output module that brings 24 V load switching to the machine level while still appearing in the controller's process image as simple output bits. By locating the solid-state drivers close to sensors, solenoids, lamps, and small inductive actuators, the unit reduces cabinet wiring and supports decentralized mounting in EtherCAT networks. The housing seals against dust and splashed coolants, so it fits conveyor, packaging, and material-handling equipment.

Each channel operates from the module's 24 VDC supply and draws only 20 mA of logic current, leaving headroom on the system power bus. The outputs can source up to 0.5 A apiece into resistive, inductive, or lamp loads, and they connect through a threaded M12 screw-in connector that resists vibration. In the PLC image, the device occupies 8 output bits, matching its eight physical drivers. A downstream port with one 4-pin M8 socket passes fieldbus and auxiliary power to the next box, allowing daisy-chain topologies. Control-to-fieldbus isolation prevents ground loops, and the power feed connector carries 24 V and 0 V rails for the attached actuators.

The unit supports a variable installation position, so the housing may be laid flat on a frame or fastened vertically on a cable tray without derating. During fault events, the electronic protection limits short-circuit current to 1.5 A, and integrated reverse polarity protection shields the drivers if the supply leads are accidentally swapped. Each output shares a 24 V sensor line that can deliver 0.5 A, enabling proximity switches or indicator lamps to be powered locally. A separate M8 connector introduces the feed voltage, and the internal process mapping remains unchanged regardless of mounting orientation. This consistent mapping simplifies configuration and ongoing maintenance without changing the assigned output addresses.
